Legal Marijuana | St Martin (APRIL FOOLS JOKE – regulations below)
“Sint Maarten is following the lead of the Netherlands and legalized Marijuana in order to boost the economy – April Fools 2021 (Enjoy the read).”
In a public meeting on the 31st of March, thirteen out of the fifteen members of Parliament voted for the legalization of Marijuana which was a large majority and so a new road is taken for the country of SXM.
Following Chair of Parliament MP. Burn, this legalization is much needed, “As an economic boost to improve our countries liquidity and to become an autonomous country by 2027”.
MP. Spliff added, “Since the Netherlands froze the financial support, Sint Maarten has to find different ways to move forward.” And: “In half of the world weed is legal already and many people here smoke anyways. This will create more tax income and also immensely boost our tourism industry”.
Following several within our (We Are SXM) Tourism Market, many tourists believe Marijuana is legal already because they know it is Legal in the Netherlands. The coffee shops in Amsterdam are mentioned as one of the major attractions.
From today onwards three companies are going to run a pilot for legalizing Marijuana, to ensure a proper enrollment of new laws on the entire Dutch side. Furthermore, the government reassures people that we won’t just allow smoking everywhere.
Pilot locations are AMAsterdam in Philipsburg, Dutch Blonde Bar on the Boardwalk and Palapa Lounge in Simpson Bay. Go check them out to make sure this becomes a success.
Pilot locations for Legal Weed:
At Philipsburg you will be able to smoke Dutch marijuana in a hookah with a very low amount of THC, at the Dutch Blonde bar on the Boardwalk they sell pre-rolled joints with weed from the Netherlands, and at Palapa Lounge they use Marijuana Cigars to make weed-infused cocktails.
Following the owner of Palapa, Barbara P.: “A very interesting experiment in which we hope not to scare people away but to create a unique vacation experience. Especially in our lounge we get the question if people are allowed to smoke on a regular basis. Which is one of the reasons we are happy to test this. Try our ‘Greens cocktail’.”
Also business owner Arun B. is very enthusiastic “We have been trying to get a permit for many years and are very happy to now finally be able to sell Marijuana. Obviously we take the responsibillity to do this the right way and like to keep all our clients happy, therefore we created a seperate corner for the hookah. Call it, the Happy Corner!”
Owner Sunil from Dutch Blonde Bar added “We are a Dutch Caribbean Island, with proper planning we should be able to follow the lead of the Netherlands and many other countries to legalize Marijuana. Prime Minister Silvie Lake likes to add: “It is NOT ALLOWED to smoke weed out in the open, but only at these designated locations. We hope our Island community understands that this is a process in which we legalize step by step. Abuse of these new regulations will be punished and result in huge fines and possible even jailtime!”
Marijuana in Sint Maarten – Saint Martin (REAL INFO):
Obviously, this was our April Fools’ joke from 2021, but as it seems to have an overwhelming response here, the general rules and regulations about Marijuana in SXM. Unfortunately for all reaching this page, marijuana is illegal in both Dutch Sint Maarten and French Saint Martin. That said it is very well accepted by society if used respectfully in regards to other visitors, do not smoke in public, and do not bother others with the weed smell to stay out of trouble.
The good news is that Marijuana is most certainly available and offered at many street corners, but our advice would be to ask service staff for their advice to not get fooled.
Now you can’t get Marijuana or THC in any stores, but we do have many herbal supplements and CBD available on island. We recommend you to visit The Green Zone in Simpson Bay for advice, herbal remedies, dietary supplements, soaps and so on. We have also added the other locations where you can simply have a good time :) Enjoy your stay in SXM!
