Cross the border Bike tour:

For a little more sporty ride, there is this 17km cultural ride, which begins in the Capital of the Dutch side Philipsburg (cruise port) and heads towards the Capital of the French side, Marigot. Cycling over “the hill,” you enjoy magnificent views over our island and the neighboring islands.
Some people say the best way to really get to know a new area is on the seat of a bike. This tour aims to do just that as you go on an eco-friendly journey through Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. Before you start your ride, your guide will give a brief introduction to cycling in St. Maarten and the Hardtail Cube Acid E-Bikes you’ll be using for your tour. You will then follow your guide along the Boardwalk of Philipsburg that hugs Great Bay’s white sand beach. You will pass Divi Little Bay and continue over Cay Hill for an amazing view of the Simpson Bay Lagoon.

After descending into Cole Bay, you will cross the Causeway, which stretches over the Lagoon, and make a short stop at the Border Monument. Here is where the Dutch Side borders the French side, and your guide will explain all about the Concordia Treaty signed in the 1600’s, which serves to this day as an amicable agreement between French and Dutch St. Maarten.

Continue riding along to Marigot, the French Capital, where you will explore the local market, savoring the sights, smells, and sounds of a traditional Caribbean marketplace. You will also enjoy a cold beverage before making a short walk to the historic Fort Louis, once a strategic fortress protecting the bay of Marigot. On your return you can decide to end your journey in Simpson Bay, or continue back over the hill to Philipsburg.

We loved the tour and Alexandra, our tour guide. It is not too difficult. We were not quite in good shape and still were able to do the whole tour and enjoy it. This one was the first of many hikes to come.
