Dutch & French Quarter (2025)

“For a truly historical experience, let’s go to the Quarters!”

Dutch Quarter is on the Dutch side (East side) of the island. It is one of the largest residential districts in Sint Maarten. This is one of the most eclectic areas by far. Made up of many diverse little neighborhoods. Each charming in their own way.
Dutch Quarter has a rich history with lots of original architecture, and is home to the Walk-in Bird Park, Heritage Museum, and Medicinal Garden.
At the roundabout, you get to admire some of the island’s famous historical figures, Lalie Duzanson, Tata the bus driver, and Alec the butcher. All are remembered for heroic acts or being a consistent factor in the history of the island community.

French Quarter is located on the east coast right on the border. The most notable area is Quartier-d’Orleans, a seaside village on the island’s eastern coast with traditional Caribbean houses, churches and roadside shacks selling fruits, food & drinks.
The area is best known for one if the island’s culinary local gem, Yvette’s Kitchen. Yvette’s offers local dishes that give you that home-cooked meal feeling.
A must-see for any history enthusiasts is Amuseum Naturalis, a free museum of the nature, history, and culture of St. Martin and the Caribbean. The museum is inside The Old House located on a hill above an area known as Le Galion. Learn about animals native to St. Martin and take a botanic walk around as well as enjoy three beautiful viewpoints..

So even if passing through these two areas, there are a few fun stops along the way that provide a cultural treat.
