SXM DOET | Experience St. Maarten Through Volunteering
Best Community & Volunteering Event 2026 – by We Are SXM, Tourist Info Center
Experience St. Maarten Through Meaningful Volunteer Projects – Join SXM DOET, the island’s largest annual volunteer event, and make a visible difference while enjoying St. Maarten beyond the beaches and resorts.
SXM DOET 2026 takes place on May 15–16, immediately after Carnival, offering visitors and locals an authentic way to connect with the community. For over a decade, this Kingdom-wide initiative has invited volunteers to step into short, hands-on projects that benefit schools, care facilities, environmental groups, and community centers.
Activities are designed to be accessible to all, requiring no prior skills — only a positive attitude and willingness to participate.
From coastal cleanups to playground building, mangrove conservation, library restocking, and youth sports programs, each project allows participants to make an impact while discovering St. Maarten through its people.

Visitors can experience voluntourism in a respectful, memorable way. Projects typically last a few hours or a full day, with photos and moments to remember. Volunteers enjoy working alongside friendly locals, sharing stories, and creating a sense of accomplishment.
Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended, as many activities involve hands-on work, sometimes outdoors. SXM DOET also offers private organizations the opportunity to host projects and gain funding support.
Whether painting schools, planting native species, or organizing games for children, every volunteer contributes to the island’s social, environmental, and cultural well-being.
The event is about community, connection, and joy — themed “From Jump Up to Step Up” to channel Carnival energy into meaningful action. It is open to residents, tourists, youth, and organizations alike. Registration opens closer to the event via sxmdoet.com
And organizations must register by February 28, 2026. Volunteers experience St. Maarten beyond the beaches, contributing in ways that leave a lasting impact. Many participants continue engagement year-round, discovering new friendships and insights into local culture. SXM DOET is an unforgettable way to give back, learn, and celebrate the island together.
