When Tess Verheij is not teaching and inspiring environmental awareness, she’s a brilliant artist who works in many different mediums. You can find her at the local Art and Gift store, located in the brand-new Hills shopping mall in Cole Bay.
The walls of the gallery are filled with pottery, paintings, embellished giclees, limited editions, linocuts, watercolors, multiple prints, and the latest work in Vitrail (glass paint) and resin.
Tess loves nature, animals, and bringing more color to life. This reflects well in all her art pieces! The sandpainting utilizes sand directly from the beaches of SXM, bringing ocean scenes to life with a unique texture.

It was an unplanned visit to the Local Art & Gift Shop but I am glad that I visited this art gallery. As an occasional painter myself, I was very happy after the visit. My favorite one was the gallery fully dedicated to realistic paintings. I bought one of the paintings for my girlfriend and she loved it. A must-visit place for art enthusiasts!
My boyfriend bought the ostrich for me when we were on SXM in November. I received it for Christmas!
And my sister loved the Christmas tree ornaments I bought her. So a great store with super nice products :)
