Baby Pelican started with me — but really, it started long before I was born. Childcare and education run deep in my family: my great-grandfather was a teacher and principal, my grandmother a teacher and principal too, and my aunt followed the same path. In a lot of ways, this work chose me before I ever chose it. As the oldest of three, I was always the one holding my siblings, asking to help, asking to hold every baby in the room.
By 12 I was already babysitting for family friends — partly for the money, but mostly because I loved it, and because kids warmed to me as fast as I warmed to them. As a teenager I was a camp counselor in Puerto Rico, at the very same camp where three generations of my family had worked before me. When I moved back to the island in 2019 I kept babysitting on the side, and by 2022 word of mouth had grown so much that I knew I could do this full-time. Baby Pelican Babysitting Foundation was born in June 2024, built on 16 years of childcare I’d already lived.
We started small — a mobile babysitting service that came to you, wherever you needed us: a hotel room, a villa, a yacht docked in the marina. I’d noticed a gap no one was filling: tourist families arriving on the island with nowhere to turn for trusted childcare. With my roots in local hospitality and years of caring for families here, in the U.S., and in Europe, I know exactly what parents look for before handing over their children.
As we grew and built partnerships like La Samanna, we opened our Play Center at Port de Plaisance, added baby gear rentals for traveling families, and this year launched a summer camp with SXM Padel Club. Today I have a hand-picked team of sitters, every one emergency and CPR certified and personally trained by me — so whoever shows up at your door brings the exact same care I would. Shy toddler or curious kid, we usually go from strangers to best friends within the first hour.
